Hi

My names Duncan Boar. I set up 'Tough Mountain' after I qualified as an International Mountain Leader in 2009. I have worked in the Italian Alps and Dolomites as a trekking guide as well as a Mountain Bike guide in the Midi Pyrenees region of France, for the past 5 years. Prior to this I had worked for a number of expedition companies leader treks to India and Romania as well as several countries in Africa and South America.

 

I now specialise in guiding groups on some of the most rewarding treks in the European Alps, the Tour of Monte Rose, Tour of Monte Blanc and the Alta Via 1 & 2 in the Dolomites. I have also developed shorter breaks in the Brenta Dolomites.

 

Having a facination with the history of the Second World War, I have developed an interest in the personal stories of those Allied Servicemen who sort to gain their freedom by escaping from the Prisoner of War camps in Italy. These brave individuals each sought to undertake a hazardous journey over hostile mountainous enemy held territory to reach neutral Switzerland. I personally guide all these routes so that you can gain an insight into their experiences and experience for yourself their journey on 'the  freedom trail'.

 

I am now based in the Alps throughout the summer season allowing me to develop further my knowledge of the Val D'Aosta and Piemonte regions, their mountain ranges and lesser known regional parks, Cultures and Customs and of course..their wine!
